Hope
a style of writing
“Whatever the mind of (wo)man can conceive and believe, the mind of (wo)man can achieve.” Napoleon Hill
Fear
Hope
Which yields more action?
Which yields more power?
Do we need both?
Is hope, pie in the sky?
Is fear, dooming?
When does fear flip from action to immobilizing?
When does hope spur action?
My stories are written from a spirit of hope, envisioning the best possible outcome. Although most of my readers embrace the optimism, some have scoffed or found it saccharine—not edgy enough but if we can’t envision the scenario we want, can we ever achieve it?
I’d never read the quote in full apparently, only knowing the conceive/achieve connection. Those two words- ‘and believe’ are the kicker, aren’t they? I can envision a positive outcome but if my mind can’t move it into the belief arena my chances may diminish.
That’s where the power of group thought, group belief, enters. We anchor each other in our hope and the possibility it can become reality. we’re like the geese in flight taking turns moving to the apex.
Both of my novels highlight the power of community and in Whispers for Terra it’s where the work gets done. But I sit considering my two current WIPs; recognizing the task may be building the believability of hope for my readers, not just myself.
